Bottled or Plumbed-in?

Plumbed-in water Coolers / Water Fountains Considerations

Plumbed-in water coolers are, generally speaking, cheaper than bottled coolers for medium/high users. A good guide is that if you are likely to use an average of 1 x 18.5L bottle of water per week or more on a bottled cooler, then a plumbed-in unit would be cheaper. Many of our clients have calculated that a bottled cooler is the cheaper option but have still decided to have a plumbed-in cooler due to the other benefits that they bring.

It has been estimated that the carbon footprint left by 1 litre of bottled water is around 120g CO2 whereas a Litre of filtered water leaves a footprint of around 0.3g. It stands to reason that taking water direct from the mains is going to be better for the environment than buying bottles that have been transported around the country/world by polluting vehicles.

Water Quality:

All our water coolers are fitted with 0.9 micron rated water filters. This will filter out 99% of all chlorine, herbicides, pesticides and any particulate matter that may be in old pipes. Essentially, following filtration all that is left is just great tasting water.

Running out of water can be a problem with bottled coolers, particularly during very warm periods when the cooler is most required. With a plumbed-in water coolers you get an unlimited supply of great quality, chilled drinking water.

Cooler Location:

Naturally, a plumbed-in water cooler will require access to a ‘potable’ water supply. The pipe used to carry the water from your mains supply to the cooler is ¼” flexible hose which can be run up to 15 meters.
Plumbed-in coolers are available in both floor-standing and counter-top format and require about a foot square of floor space.

If you are unsure if your premises are suitable for a plumbed-in cooler, simply click on the Contact Us button and we will be happy to come and carry out a free site survey.

Budgeting is easy as we can supply our plumbed-in water coolers on an all-inclusive rental basis; the customer knows exactly what the cost will be over the course of a year. A customer would normally pay a fixed monthly fee and this would be fully inclusive of:

  • Installation (subject to a site visit)
  • Water Cooler rental
  • 6-monthly sanitisation and filter replacements
  • Full parts and labour warranty for the term of the rental

Essentially, there would be no additional costs on top of the monthly fee other than plastics cups if they were required

Contract Team:

A typical rental term for a plumbed-in water cooler would be 3 years although we can also provide quotations for shorter terms if required. Most of our customers have been delighted to retain our services a long time after the initial term has ended.

Bottled Water Coolers

A bottled water cooler will work out cheaper if you are likely to consume less than 1 bottle per week across the year.

Cooler Location/Storage:

A bottled water cooler will take up about the same amount of space as a plumbed-in cooler but please bear in mind that you will need to allow some space to store a stock of bottles. A bottled cooler would be preferable for you if you have no way of getting a water supply within 15m of the cooler location.

If you are likely to want to move your water cooler from one area to another then a bottled water cooler unit is probably the way to go.

udgeting the cost of a bottled water cooler is very difficult as it is very much dependent upon the weather. Consumption during warm spells can increase by up to 3 times.

Contract Team:

A bottled water cooler is typically (but not always) supplied on a 12 month Rental Agreement
